Welcome to Wyatt Statesman

Wyatt Statesman Inc. is the online home for technology consulting services which I provide to select clients.  My wife Liliann, my children and I, recently relocated from the small quaint town of South Pasadena, California to beautiful Austin, Texas.  We decided to seize this exciting opportunity and follow our daughter to her newly adopted state for her college “Sic ‘Em” education.  We are currently residing in Round Rock and we formed Wyatt Statesman in 2014 to provide hi-touch, quality technology consulting to select business clients, similar to our work in California.

If we haven’t met yet, thank you for stopping by.  I have a contact page here.  What follows is some background about what I provide to business clients…

Markus Van Loan, lead consultant at Wyatt Statesman Inc.
Markus Van Loan, lead consultant at Wyatt Statesman Inc.

I provide technology consulting to select clients.  My work varies from front line desktop support, training and troubleshooting, through cloud technologies, mobile systems and support. I also assist clients with high-order strategic planning and technology roadmaps addressing subjects such as disaster recovery, expansions and planned upgrades.

I’ve been providing technology consulting services to clients since 2001 and also certified on the Salesforce.com Customer Relationship Management (CRM) platform since 2014, holding current Salesforce Certified Sales Cloud Consultant, Salesforce Certified Administrator, and Salesforce Certified Platform App Builder certifications.

Historically, I’ve been an IT generalist for over 20 years, supporting and maintaining client infrastructures, networks and servers of all makes and sizes for a diverse group of business spanning many sectors.  Over the years, I’ve watched technology evolved from the black box “the tech guy holds all the keys,” to what it can be today: technology as an enabler for business and process success when done right. I welcome the opportunity to speak to you about your needs.

Beyond the normal pitch about helping clients avoid tech downtime, keeping their systems patched and protected, remote support and 15 minute billing increments, I go further.  My clients have long enjoyed my intangibles including easy access, owning the problem, continuity of care, and strategic insights.  Overall I’m told my “style” of consulting is full coverage and high touch; I can work both on-site and remotely, and always keep client support coverage in mind. In short–I Care.

Having held roles as Technician, Senior Engineer, and Assistant Development Engineer at quality firms and companies, I know that my style is different than typical IT consulting firm consultants.  For starters, typical firms have a mix of senior and junior members and often work to move workloads to junior staff to increase profitability.  Support issues are often queued up and a “case” is triaged by multiple staff who can lose track of issues or what prior members discussed, or steps remediated.  That’s very frustrating and also why I don’t spread myself too thin, only accepting a small number of clients to whom I provide excellent service.  On the rare occasion a support issues presents during another client’s work window, my clients understand the cooperative nature of my hi-touch service and we accommodate one another based on issue severity.  My goal is efficient quality at every touch point, and never a production or delayed client experience.  Rates are another differentiator; I typically do not charge for planned evening or weekend work and because I keep my overhead low along with my client count, my rate for dedicated quality service is very competitive in the marketplace.

Another difference between my work and generic IT firms is my wide background of technical experience. Having worked long stretches with clients or as an employee in technical roles, I bring onboard support experience spanning the Aerospace & Defense, Higher Education, Political, Medical, Legal, Entertainment, Non-Profit Foundation, Retail, Web Marketing and Restaurant sectors. I can bring both traditional, as well as Out-of-the-Box approaches, based on client goals.

Above all, I deeply care about the value the client receives and the quality of my work.  A couple of governing tenets of how I work with clients are transparency (discouraging technology and knowledge silos) and listening to learn and understand the client’s Business Processes and Rules. I strive to understand the client’s goals and priorities.  I get to know your business and look for ways to recommend and add value beyond the basics.  I document transparently and my clients are always able to transition with ease should the need arise.

While I do help clients with their Servers, Desktop computers, printers and mobile needs, I observed a long time ago that momentum is shifting and technology is moving to the Cloud securely.  These days, my main focus areas typically include:

  • Google Apps platform (Google Email, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms and Google Sites)
  • Google Chromebooks and Mobile management
  • Meraki Infrastructure components (Firewalls, Switches, Access Points)
  • LastPass Enterprise for Single Sign On, Enhanced security and Identity Management
  • A whole array of quality tools and recommendations (StorageCraft for disaster recovery; LogMeIn for remote and desktop support and maintenance; ESET for malware/virus threat prevention; GotoMeeting and Google Hangouts for remote training).

My optimal client profile has historically been small to medium sized businesses with typical engagement commitments of 3 or 4 hrs per week to every other week.  My goal is not to grow into a large IT firm so I cap my client list at a maximum of 8 active client engagements at any one time.  I’ve found this allows me to be available whenever needed, and to still have time for study and learning, which allows me to bring fresh ideas and solutions to my clients.

Should you see synergies and have needs in these areas, or interest in building a roadmap toward an easier experience, please contact me for a no cost discussion and let’s see if I can support your goals.  My recent transition brings opportunities and I am actively enrolling new clients here in Texas.  References are available from current and recent clients, which can be provided upon request.  Click here to view a client reference from one of the best restaurants in Southern California (well known for their amazing Dianne Salad and world class Zucchini Bread).

Thank you very much for visiting Wyatt Statesman,

Markus

p.s. If you haven’t noticed yet, I can be slightly verbose which should be no surprise as my DISC profile reveals I am an S.c. (Big S, Little c), which translates to strongest in Steadiness and strong in Compliance.  By the way, If you haven’t considered implementing a DISC, Predictive Index (PI) or Myers Briggs or similar program in your company, it’s worth a look as these systems are not intelligence profiles, but are style profiles and can empower your employee teams to better understand themselves, their coworkers, and clients.  This means being heard and understood more often when interacting with others, which can equate to real bottom line returns (sales/service) and with less conflict.
